“When we last checked in with our friends Sebastian Ingrosso, Axwell and Steve Angello from Swedish House Mafia, they were hours away from unleashing a then-untitled single upon thousands and thousands of screaming fans at the Ultra Music Festival during the Winter Music Conference in Miami. Just hours after their show, a Czech house-music blog illegally posted a high-quality version of the song called “Gangster the Dog,” and on Monday, SHM officially released the single under the name “One.”

“I don’t know where [the Czech blog] got [that name] from!” Steve Angello told MTV News on Thursday. “Sebastian’s dog is called Gangster, but I don’t know how they pasted his dog together with a track! It was kind of confusing, but, you know, now it’s out.”

Dubbed “the hottest record in the world” by BBC DJ Zane Lowe, “One” reached the top of dance-music site Beatport’s downloads chart faster than any other song. Angello admitted that was at least partially due to the buzz drummed up by the leak.

“Dirty South [a close friend of SHM] was playing the record, and somebody in Montreal recorded his set without telling him,” Angello said. “After that, we just had to release the record, because everyone was buzzing about it and there were all these clips on YouTube and file-sharing things. So we had to make a quick move and release the record, otherwise it would have been destroyed.” ……..”

New Rule on House Music from Real Time with Bill Maher on HBO

Another fine example of house music being goofed on, this time by Bill Maher, on the April 30th, 2010 episode of Real Time with Bill Maher on HBO. I find examples like this interesting because the opinions always seem to be based on the “cliched” version of house music that the public hears in commercials or during a PG-13 summer movie. And besides, I know plenty of people who have listened to house music in their house. Discuss amongst yourselves (in the comments).

David Guetta ‘Memories’ played on Howard Stern Show

I’m always interested when house music producers and dj’s find some great crossover publicity in the mainstream media world. As an avid listener of the Howard Stern Show on Sirius XM Radio this past week, I was delighted to hear Robin Quivers mention the new hit record from David Guetta featuring Kid Cudi: Memories. Robin mentioned the record as she was going through samples of some of the top singles on the American charts. Then, as usual, Robin and Howard continued to have their confused discussion about how a DJ could have a record, with questions like “Is David Guetta singing?”, etc… but it was nice nonetheless to catch some nice props going to a dance music record during a show with an audience of tens of millions of people! Fans of the Howard Stern Show are probably also familiar with the plight of J.D. Harmeyer, a staff member on the show who is fond of techno and hard house. Howard often plays songs found on J.D.’s iPod and likes to ridicule him for his listening choices. Check out the Memories video below.

Phoenix Landing Hosts Top Local Djs & Slanted Bombs Are Dropped

Last night the Slanted Family attended “Sessions” a party focused on Techno & Tech House started by Boston Dj legend Justin Carr @ The Phoenix Landing In Cambridge MA. The theme for this Sessions was the celebration of Justin’s birthday and showcased Dj’s Paul Dailey, Patrick Barry, Justin Carr, Mikes Swells & Boston’s own Dj TK. This event was fantastic because the djs had an excellent vibe and shared the decks in a fair and entertaining way. During the party the dancefloor was also seen shaking their booties to two future Slanted House releases “Late Night Groove” & “Yolk Hunt.” Overall an excellent event!
